Leave the Car Where It Is

The Methow Community Trail crosses the property, about forty feet from the back door. Not near a trailhead — on the trail. The walk starts where you are standing, not at a car park half an hour away.

The river

A short walk through the cottonwoods and you are standing on the gravel bar with the water running past. Cold, clear and loud in spring; slow and swimmable by August.

The trail

Forty feet from the back door. The Methow Community Trail is a 30 km connector linking Mazama, Winthrop, Sun Mountain and Cub Creek, and the spine of a 200+ km network — the largest cross-country ski system in North America. Groomed overnight in winter, open to boots and tyres the rest of the year.

The woods

All of the above is on foot from the property. Creek, our German shorthaired pointer and unofficial head of guest relations, will show you the way whether or not you ask him to.

Further Up the Valley

The rest of the Methow is a short drive: the bluffs over the lower river, the ridge trails, and the peaks at the head of the valley where the snow sits into July.

Winthrop, Washington sits at the heart of the Methow Valley, a pristine mountain valley in the North Cascades. Known for its Old West character, friendly community, and world-class outdoor recreation, the Methow Valley is a destination for every season.

The Wolfridge Resort Community sits right on the Methow Community Ski Trail, giving you ski-in/ski-out access to over 200 kilometers of groomed trails in winter. In summer, these trails become part of the Methow Valley Trails bike network — one of the largest mountain biking trail systems in North America.

Getting here

Highway 20 is closed all winter. Plan the southern route.

The North Cascades Highway (SR 20) over Rainy and Washington passes closes every winter and does not reopen until somewhere between mid April and early May. It closed on December 4 in 2025 and the eastern section did not reopen until April 30 2026. From Seattle in winter you come around the south end: I-90 or US 2 east, then north up the Columbia and into the valley. It is a longer drive than the map app will suggest in July, so give yourself the afternoon.

Closure and reopening dates from WSDOT. In summer the North Cascades Highway is the short way in and one of the best drives in the state. From roughly December to late April it is not an option at all.

Your Base

Wolfridge Resort Community

Our properties sit inside the Wolfridge Resort Community, a quiet, well-kept neighbourhood whose shared amenities come with the stay. The heated outdoor pool is one of only a handful anywhere in the Methow Valley — the owner counts eight. It runs Memorial Day to Labor Day. The hot tub, under its log shelter, is open all year, which is the one you will care about in February.
